WELCOME TO ANCASTER!
The Town of Ancaster is a picturesque and historic community located on the Niagara Escarpment within the greater area of the city of Hamilton and commuting distance of the greater Toronto area. This town was founded officially in 1791 and was one of the oldest European communities established in present day Ontario. The town is home to an abundance of natural beauty offering many enjoyable recreational activities, as well as an array of shopping and dining opportunities and is just a stone throw from Ontario’s most active wine region.

Recreation, arts & culture
Today, Ancaster has its old village charm from its historical village core, its abundant recreational walking trails and its unique variety of restaurants, pubs and shops. It is also a vibrant growing community with many modern recreational facilities, sports fields and amenities. Golf enthusiasts enjoy playing a round or two at one of the nearby golf courses, while families have some fun taking a tour of a farmer’s corn maze or picking their own apples at the orchard. Ancaster also hosts a number of fun annual events throughout the year such as the Ancaster Heritage Days and Lobsterfest, where approximately 4000 lobsters are brought in fresh from the east coast and 14-ounce steaks are cooked on a number of large barbecues.

Parks, trails & waterfalls
Nature has given Ancaster some of the most beautiful conservation areas and trail systems to be found for hikers, walkers, bird watchers, nature lovers, runners and cyclists alike. The area contains numerous magnificent waterfalls, lush Carolinian forests, cold-water streams, geological formations, rare plants and wildlife, all to be enjoyed through the Niagara Escarpment, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and indeed a treasure.

Education
The Ancaster community has access to four school boards (public or catholic in French or English) with a number of alternative programs focusing on sports, academics, science, arts and language. In this area, a number of outstanding post-secondary institutions have been recognized internationally for their research and instructional strength. These include McMaster University, Mohawk College, Redeemer University College, Brock University, and College Boreal. In addition, Ancaster has access to many post-secondary institutions within a one-hour drive.
